BIOGRAPHY
M.Eugène Pereira Tamayo is a French artist whose multidisciplinary practice unfolds at the intersection of sculpture, performance, language, and the edible. With a background rooted in both working-class heritage and formal training in visual and performance arts, he navigates the complex tensions between art and life, comfort and discomfort, function and fiction.
His work often engages modest materials and everyday gestures, transforming them into ambiguous objects—somewhere between furniture, prosthesis, and sculpture—that challenge exhibition norms and class representations encoded in aesthetic forms. M.Eugène Pereira Tamayo employs strategies of bricolage, wordplay, conviviality, and cooking to generate participatory experiences where artworks become vessels for storytelling, ritual, and social reflection.
Notable projects such as L’inconfort, Barbecue Constructiviste, and Alreadymade: Fountain reflect his critical engagement with domestic and culinary spaces. Here, food and furniture become tools to interrogate consumption, taste (both literal and cultural), and collective memory. His concept of “performative design” and “edible sculpture” is less about static form and more about activated, evolving environments that open space for friction—between institutional and popular culture, spectatorship and action, body and object.
His artistic explorations are underpinned by a desire to desacralize art while imbuing it with relational intensity. He is particularly drawn to the “indigestible”—the awkward, the unstable, the excessive—as a fertile ground for critical and aesthetic experimentation.
